Evolution of a smile: 400 million year old spiny fish overturns shark theory of tooth origins
LESSONS FROM EARTH HISTORY
Outreach talk live on facebook cooperating with Readerland on 27th June . The talk examined the environment and climate during the age of dinosaurs, a fascinating event called the “Palaeocene-Eocene thermal maximum” and the aftermath of the two greatest extinction events in history: the Permian-Triassic, also known as the “great dying”, and the end-Cretaceous, which famously wiped out the dinosaurs. Talk was live-streamed, and the video can be viewed here
Gall wasp life cycle
I recently dug up this video I made as a teenager, which shows the complete life cycle of the gall wasp Andricus kollari, including footage of the asexual generation emerging from the gall. This fascinating species shows alternation of asexual and sexual generations, which look completely different, and live in different species of oak. Click here to see the raw footage of the asexual generation emerging (if you dare)!
